While You Wait...

Aletha Hinthorn Carole learned that amazing things happen when you memorize Scripture. She often says, "Don't memorize Scripture unless you want God to change your life," because He will do just that as you absorb His Word into your heart.

One afternoon, a small group had met for prayer. They were drinking their second cup of coffee and discussing the requests for which they wanted to pray.

"Well," Carole sighed, "I wish you'd pray for Sue. She's having trouble with her marriage. Her husband is really edgy lately and..." She almost strangled on the next phrase.
Because straight out of heaven, or so it seemed, God's voice intoned on her soul, "Carole, 'A talebearer reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy conceals a matter'" (Proverbs 11:13).

She wanted to make more of God's Words available to her  and decided to learn two or three verses a week. She had heard that many of us spend almost seven years of our lives just waiting-waiting for the doctor, a friend to arrive, dinner to be cooked. What spiritual wealth she might accumulate if she could buy up all that wasted "waiting time."

So she began to carry verses on cards with her so she could go over them during the times she was riding in the car, ironing, even vacuuming, as well as those periods of waiting. And, as she was reviewing these verses, she could really think about them.

In many of our waking hours, our minds must be occupied with routine matters. But those minutes, even hours of our days, that we spend with our minds drifting, can become amazing profitable if we methodically and prayerfully dwell on Christ through His Words.

Dear Lord, help us to hide Your Word in our hearts so we can carry it with us through the day and let it live in us.

"It is pleasing when you keep them in your heart and have all of them ready on your lips" (Proverbs 22:18).

 Memory Verse for April

"He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all--how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things" (Romans 8:32).
