What Satan Hates

When God says we should love Him with all our hearts, minds, and strength, it is simply what He Himself is doing toward us. God spared Abraham's son, but He did not spare His own son. God loves us continually, individually, and thoughtfully.

How many of us are tempted to think God loves us because we do something good, right, or loving? Satan hates for us to have any comprehension of how much God loves us, so he implants thoughts like, "God doesn't love you now that you've failed Him again." But God loves us because of what He is; not because of what we do. He is rich in love, and He lavishes it upon us continually.

"And we know and rely on the love that God has for us" (1 John 4:16). More than anything else, we need to come to see how continual and immeasurable His love is. All our fears and worries will vanish when we discover how much He loves us.

Frederick Faber wrote these lines in "There's a Wideness in God's Mercy:"

        For the love of God is broader
         Than the measure of man's mind;
         And the heart of the Eternal
         Is most wonderfully kind.

         If our love were but more simple,
         We should take Him at His word;
          And our lives would be illumined
          By the presence of our Lord.

Dear Father, please give me an increased understanding of Your love for me.

"He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all-how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?" (Romans 8:32).
