How G. Campbell Morgan Studied the Bible

Years ago John Mitchell, founder of Multnomah School of the Bible, had the opportunity to sit down with G. Campbell Morgan for a few minutes of conversation. Knowing he might never have such an opportunity again with the man who was called "the prince of Bible expositors," John Mitchell had a question ready for him.

"Dr. Morgan, tell me how you study your Bible."

Dr. Morgan just looked at him. Finally he said, "Mitchell, you wouldn't do it if I told you."

"Well," said Mitchell, "you try me."

He paused a moment, then said, "Before I study a book in the Bible, I read it through forty or fifty times-before I even start to study it."

G. Campbell Morgan saturated his mind with the Word of God. This was the secret of his rich ministry.

Morgan counseled his readers to begin at the center with the Gospels. Then he writes, "Read the book; read it again. Then read it again and yet again, until you become conscious that the book has made an impression upon your mind; that you have a conception of its general movement."

Sometimes our most profitable study will simply be reading and rereading.
