Come, Sit and Enjoy

In his book Hearing God, Peter Lord tells of reading Hebrews 1:13: "Sit at my right hand, until I make Thine enemies a footstool for thy feet." His first thought was that this verse applies only to Jesus but prayed for a personal application. He says this is the answer God gave him. 

"Peter, my Son Jesus is seated at my right hand, and you are raised up and seated with him (Ephesians 2:6). You have the privilege of sitting there with us (1 John 1:3). This is where your heart needs to be continually--seated in fellowship with me.

"Your trouble is that you are running around trying to take care of your troubles, your 'enemies' and I have to use my right hand to get you to sit down.

"If you would sit and fellowship with us, you would set my right hand free to make your enemies your footstool. Come, my son, sit and fellowship with us, and we will take care of your enemies. Notice, you have not done too well at doing it yourself!"

What a joy to remember that our role is to fellowship with Him without worrying about our enemies--fear, lack of wisdom, etc.--but to simply focus on fellowship with him.

I heard someone pray something like this: Thank You this day for communion," and it seemed the Holy Spirit said, "When you get up in the morning, don't think, 'I have this and this and this to do,' but think, 'Another day for communion with God!'" As the Psalmist discovered, our purpose all the days of our lives is "to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord" (Psalm 27:4). 

Dear Lord, help me to keep You as my focus today.

"May the...fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all" (2 Corinthians 13:14).
