Lesson 18: The Seal of Love

Now that she has the seal of His love in her heart (Song 8:6-7), the Bride is aware of the spiritual condition of others. She doesn’t seek to meet their needs on her own but looks to Jesus for guidance.

Beloved

Lesson 13: The Beauty of Jesus

The maiden has passed the ultimate test. She trusts and loves Him even after she has been unable to find Him and has been mistreated by others.

When her friends imply that He is no better than any other (5:9), her soul is stirred to its depths. She begins to pour forth a portrayal of Him that is comparable to the descriptions of the Ancient of Days in Daniel 7:9-10 and of our risen Lord in Revelation 1:13-16. Her words guide our praises. As we praise Him, we, too, enter into His presence.

Beloved
5:2 I slept but my heart was awake. Listen! My lover is knocking: “Open to me, my sister, my darling, my dove, my flawless one. My head is drenched with dew, my hair with the dampness of the night.”

Lesson 9: What Jesus Admires

In this section the Bridegroom declares His love for His bride by telling her what He admires. She had asked for His kisses which He gives through the words that come from His mouth. As she listens to Him, she matures spiritually.
We, too, grow spiritually by receiving His love through His words. As we daily receive His “kisses” through reading and reflecting on Scripture, we gain these qualities Jesus admires.
Lover
4:1 How beautiful you are, my darling! Oh, how beautiful!

Lesson 6 The Lover’s Invitation

This is a new scene in the maiden’s life with her Lover. She has learned to delight in Him, but Jesus yearns for her to join Him in His mission of sharing His love with others.

Beloved
2:8 Listen! My lover! Look! Here he comes, leaping across the mountains, bounding over the hills.

She now hears and sees Him coming toward her. He comes despite every obstacle. By leaping across the mountains, He is assuring her that no matter how intense the problems and difficulties may be, He has already conquered them.

Lesson 3 The Loving Eyes of Jesus

Lover
1:8 If you do not know, most beautiful of women, follow the tracks of the sheep and graze your young goats by the tents of the shepherds.
Jesus quickly responds with loving admiration when we look honestly at ourselves. He calls her the “most beautiful of women” despite her describing herself as unlovely. Instead of rebuking her for being too busy and too distracted, He admires her. The more we are willing to admit the darkness He shows us in ourselves, the more beautiful we are to Him.

Lesson 2 Yearning for Love

In the first Lesson (below) the maiden longed for Jesus’ kisses—evidences of His affections. In this lesson she explains why she had neglected Him.

1:3 Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes; your name is like perfume poured out. No wonder the maidens love you!

She asked to be spiritually kissed and immediately was blessed with a revelation concerning Jesus’ name. Thinking on His Name is as refreshing as opening a bottle of the finest perfume. We do not see or take hold of a fragrance, but it makes an impact on us.
