Calling you to live in God's love
September/October issue presents:
All by Terri Tiffany
My husband, Curt, lost his job. For a man who had worked steadily for 30 years, the blow eventually became more than he could handle. In that fateful day off, I lost not only my supporter and rock; I lost the man I'd always known. That's when Pastor Ron's words changed my life. "All means all; and that's all ALL means."
Can You Be Healed of an Incurable Disease? An Anorexia Victim Speaks Out
For years, Kim McLean suffered with anorexia, which is often touted as an incurable disease. With the increasing focus on body image, this is becoming more of an issue for women in all social circles, including Christians. Come to the Fire interviewed Kim about how she found victory over her eating disorders through Christ.
In the Name of Jesus by Beth Coppedge
I read Psalm 2:7-8 and said, "Jesus, how do we pray to make a difference in nations?" This was when 193 Ugandans were killed in a one-night rage across the river where my son Billy and his wife Joanna would live as missionaries. I said, "Is there a way for us to intercede for the nations and for those who are on the front lines?"
Then Jesus led me to the book by J. O Fraser called Mountain Rain.
Become a Woman of Prayer by Swann Bates as told to Pam Enderby
About 45 years ago the Lord spoke to me about having a prayer time. As a young mother of four children, two years apart, I said, “Lord, I’m so busy with these children, and my husband travels so much.
The Lord answered, “What are you doing at 5 a.m. in the morning, Swan?”
“Well Lord, I’m sleeping, and at that time in the morning I’m tired.”
“Get up at 5 a.m. to pray,” He whispered.
After decades of devoting myself to daily prayer I’ve discovered that God strengthens me “with power through his Spirit in your inner being” (Ephesians 3:16). The most important daily appointment is meeting with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The following guide maybe useful for your prayer times…
Loving Those Who Annoy You by Jan Johnson
I’m asked to love my neighbor of all sorts, but in reality I avoided opinionated people, people who belittled what I thought was important, or people who never let me finish a sentence without interrupting. I criticized such people, even if only in my thoughts. I lacked love for those I labeled “difficult.”
At least by avoiding these people I wasn’t hurting them, I told myself. But the Holy Spirit kept nudging me with this question: What would it look like to love the person in front of you–even if only for the next ten minutes, even if this person annoys you?
Pray Like a Child by Christy Wilson Millard
Tears fill my eyes as I visualize Matthew 19:14(NIV). “Jesus said, Let the little children come to me...” In my mind, Ava Claire is one of the children reaching for Jesus with outstretched arms. At two, she understands the importance of praising God. I wonder are my own prayers lacking partly because I have forgotten how awesome God is—and how important it is to tell him?
