God Loves You This Minute!

Occasionally God's love is amazingly evident. Recently Jana, a physician who trained under my husband, told him the following account. About seven years ago she and her husband adopted a baby, knowing he had cerebral palsy and would be crippled. One Christmas evening, she read to him about Jesus healing a crippled boy. Then she left his room to rejoin a party in another part of the house.

Soon she saw her little boy come walking into the room! He had never walked before! For an hour and a half he walked and ran around the house—and still walks! He said, “Jesus was in my window.” She looked and sure enough, she, too, could see what looked like a reflection of Jesus in the panes of his window. The face of Jesus stayed in the window about three days.

God’s love is just as real, though, even when we do not experience a healing. My mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and many prayed for her healing. How encouraged she was when the Lord gave her a promise from Psalm 91, a psalm she had read daily for years: “Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name” (vs. 14 KJV).

Mother lived about 16 months after her diagnosis, and although she was not delivered from the disease, what deliverance God gave! Her spirit remained amazingly victorious throughout her illness.

“My Father is always at his work” (John 5:17), Jesus said. What is the Father’s work? I like to think that every moment He continues to do what He did when He sent His Son. “For God so loved…that He gave….” He who never changes is continually at work giving, and expressing His love for us. Even in those times we are more aware of His tender love.

“The Lord Your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exalt over you with loud singing” (Zephaniah 3:17).
