He Is Here!

"I am here for you." These words came to me early one Saturday morning. Two days earlier I had finished a draft of Behold His Glory, and although I had written each chapter hoping to express some aspect of God's goodness, I had not thought of one phrase that captured what I wanted to say.

Then came these words: "I am here for you" and I recalled their significance. God appeared to Moses in the burning bush and commissioned him to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt. Moses protested, "If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, 'The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,' they won't believe me. They will ask, 'Which god are you talking about? What is his name?' What should I tell them?" (Exodus 3:12-13 NLT).

God replied, "I AM WHO I AM" (Exodus 3:14).

What kind of an answer was God giving Moses? According to  William Dyrness in Themes of Old Testament Theology, the best translation would be: "I will be there, as I am here" or "I am here for you." God was assuring His people of His presence. No other god did that! God's answer could also be translated, "I am becoming" or "I will become whatever you need."

What difference does it make when we live aware of His continual attentive presence? A lady in her eighties told me, "I just love growing old because I become more and more aware of this wonderful presence with me." The more aware we are of His presence, the more we realize that He is continually within us to do us good. His love and attentiveness exceed that of every other human relationship, even that of a mother with her small baby.

Dear Lord, we respond by saying we are here for You!

"One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek...to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD" (Psalm 27:4).
Please remember that Sunday is a special day to pray for President Trump.
