There was a terrible accident in a Canadian lumber camp when a tree fell where some boys were playing. One boy was pinned beneath its massive trunk. His mother was nearby and rushed to the boy, grasped the mighty tree, and released her son's leg. 

"My sister, has been going through breast cancer treatment," Vicki emailed. "I so want her to know our Lord! How can I get her to see Christ loves her? I really was a bit over-zealous one day. I have since backed-off and pray, pray, pray. I finally decided I would say no more--until I thought it was Jesus' words, not mine. Our words can perplex and hinder those who are seeking Him. It has to be His timing, His Spirit that leads."

Knowing he might never have such an opportunity again with the man who was called "the prince of Bible expositors," John Mitchell had a question ready for him.

Darlene Deibler Rose writes in Evidence Not Seen the story of her four years in a Japanese internment camp. She spent weeks in solitary confinement with very little food and much harsh treatment. One day with real effort she climbed up to look out a window to watch some prisoners in the courtyard and saw a woman grab some bananas from a hand that shot through a tangle of vines while the guard's back was turned.

Lynn's mail order cotton knit dress finally arrived. As soon as the UPS driver delivered it, in her rush to get the packaging dyes out, she threw it into the washer and dryer. When she tried it on, it had shrunk a whole size. She stood before the mirror, tugging and pulling. Both the sleeves and length were too short, and when she yanked the sleeves, the seam ripped.

"I wanted to spend time with the Lord, so I began taking my Bible to work, and I spent my lunch hour with Him. I had the distinct impression that He was pleased with my taking that time just to be with Him," a friend said.

When we memorize Scripture, we make it available to the Spirit to bring it to our minds--especially for prayer and praise--but there are additional benefits. The Psalmist said, "I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you" (119:11). There is nothing better to keep us from sinning than God's Word. Even Jesus overcame temptation through memorized Scripture. (Matthew 4:4, 7, 10).
