Helen Roseveare met a young friend who was a missionary on her first home assignment. The young friend poured out her dilemma to Helen. She was having a problem knowing with complete assurance whether God wanted her to go back to the mission field for a second term of service. She confided the apparent pros and cons on both sides of the problem and her heart cry to hear a word from God giving her clear, unmistakable guidance. 

My niece Ruth Ann had a deep desire to win souls to the Lord. Then she discovered the book Prayer Strategy by Ruth Shinness that encourages praying scripture as though we believe it. For instance, Mark 1:17 says, "'Come, follow me,' Jesus said, 'and I will make you fishers of men.'" Ruth Ann began to boldly pray, "Because I follow after You, Jesus, You have made me to become a fisher of men." 

James Fraser was a young engineer God called to China as a missionary. While in China, God burdened his heart for the Lisu, a people group that had never been touched by the Gospel. The demonology in that place was intense! They had no words for "please" or "thank you," no words for "salvation" or "sin," but 200 words for "burning" and "filleting someone alive." They did not know what a table and chairs were. They took one bath at birth and one bath at death.

When God says we should love Him with all our hearts, minds, and strength, it is simply what He Himself is doing toward us. God spared Abraham's son, but He did not spare His own son. God loves us continually, individually, and thoughtfully.

The little book of Zechariah is full of great verses such as, "Anyone who harms you harms my most precious possession." The Hebrew says "harms the apple of my eye."

When God first called Abraham, He inundated his soul with a sea of promises. He spoke to him from the starry heavens, and Abraham saw great possibilities of things for himself and his descendants. He drank in God's promises until his faith became powerful, even before any of the promises were fulfilled. 

One Saturday Rosalind sat in the Toronto Mission Union waiting to play the organ. A few days earlier she had met a rather shabbily dressed young man named Jonathan Goforth. Just as the meeting was about to begin, Jonathan Goforth was called out of the room. He had been sitting across the corner from her with several people between. When he rose, he placed his Bible on the chair. 

Dr. Carl Lundquist found a certain habit very helpful."Instead of taking an hour for lunch," he said, "I use the time to go to a prayer room, usually the Flame Room in nearby Bethel Theological Seminary. There I spend my lunch break in fellowship with God and in prayer. And I have learned a very personal dimension to what Jesus declared, "'I have had meat to eat ye know not of.'"
