Pastor Sai Lequeti is part of a worldwide partnership between the Jesus Film Project and the Church of the Nazarene. Before his team began their work of showing "Jesus" in an area of much spiritual darkness, Pastor Sai spent 40 days fasting and praying.

I like to make a list--either mentally or in my notebook--of the things I'm trusting the Lord to do. Then I do what I think Hudson Taylor meant, when, one day shortly before he died, he said to his wife, "I'm too weak to pray; all I can do is trust." Actively trusting by reviewing before the Lord what He has promised strengthens our faith. If doubts appear, we may need to again pray, claim His promised Word, and once again cast all our cares on Him.

"How can I maintain intimacy with God?" someone asked. How do we maintain an awareness of His presence? It's one thing to meet with Him in the morning during prayer and quite another to think of Him throughout the day.

Dr. Peck, a great soul winner of the last century, said that if he were given ten years in which to win 1,000 souls in order to get to heaven, he would choose to speak personally to people rather than from a pulpit.

"Our greatest trouble may become our advantage by entitling us to a new manner of the divine presence," stated E. E. Shelhammer. How true! Several weeks after my mother passed away, I decided to fix her favorite. The last time I had fixed this recipe, I did it especially for her.

"When we came back from the mission field, I fully intended to get a job," a friend said. "But one Sunday morning, the Lord said, 'You pray for Russia and I'll supply your needs.'

A lady emailed me that early one morning as she was thinking of beginning her usual routine of reading the Word and praying, she had a phone call. A little cabin they owned was being gutted and remodeled, and the workers needed her attention.

All of us have people in our lives whose spiritual welfare depends at least partly upon our faithful vigilance in prayer. The moment we determine to pray daily, though, Satan seeks to distract us. When we have time to pray, we no longer feel the same inclination and have to fight listlessness. We kneel to pray and wake up fifteen minutes later and think we might as well forget trying. Satan suggests that this is the perfect time to do that cleaning we had postponed.
