John was in so much trouble that one day his parents announced to him, “John, your lifestyle is disrupting our entire family. You have to move out. If you want to meet us and talk, we’ll meet you anywhere, but you can no longer live here.”

George Mueller obtained more than $8,000,000 by prayer so he could care for 10,000 orphans. He prayed for and led tens, if not hundreds, of thousands, to the Lord.

Mary Fletcher (1739-1815) was the wife of John Fletcher, one of the most influential figures of early Methodism. Although Mary is little known today, she was regarded as a paragon of female spirituality during her lifetime.

“After spending numerous times in prayer with a former associate in our ministry,” wrote Dick Eastman in The Hour That Changes the World, “I was amazed to find that he prayed for every person on the World Literature Crusade headquarter’s staff by name. He also prayed for each overseas leader associated with the ministry. Quietly and confidently, he would appeal for compassion, wisdom, and strength for each of the more than two hundred workers on his list.

One New Year’s Eve I asked each member of our family to give a verse they would like prayed for them that year. One requested Proverbs 3:6: “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

A little boy got his hand in an expensive vase. His parents tried but could not remove his hand. Finally, they realized they would have to break their lovely vase.

I spoke with a young lady who longed to be at rest in her spirit despite an unpleasant circumstance. “The struggle is wearing me out,” she sighed. “I tend to think that if the situation would change, I would have great joy, but I need to be able to say, ‘If I have God’s will, then I have great joy.’”
