Caroline came to Anita’s door begging to live with her. Her family had abandoned her and because of a nervous disorder, she was unable to care for herself. She walked the streets looking for “someone to look after me.”

I enjoy thinking about Psalm 119:162: “I rejoice in your promise like one who finds great spoil.” The psalmist is not saying he is rejoicing because the battle is won, but because He believes a promise from God. Great spoil speaks of the wealth taken after the battle. When we believe God’s Word, we have the same joy we would have after our prayer has been answered.

My husband and I were driving home from Wichita one night during a snow storm. Despite his careful driving, suddenly our car began to spin out of control. We headed for the huge drop-off beside the road.

Nine-year-old Darrell had been burned so terribly that all of his body, except his lips and one blistered cheek, were wrapped in sterile gauze. When his seared flesh was touched, his screams could be heard far down the hospital corridor.

Three days before I was to leave for a Come to the Fire council meeting one summer, I awakened about 2 a.m. and climbed out of bed. Suddenly I could not stand and fell across a sofa a few feet away. I struggled to walk across the room because something was wrong with my balance. I soon was back in bed. As I lay there, I kept saying these words in my mifnd: “I’m covered by the blood of Jesus.” I also trusted completely that God would enable me to do what He had planned for me to do. If I needed to go to the meeting, I would be able to go.

In response to a devotional I emailed titled “The Prayer That Was Almost Answered,” a lady wrote the following. I use her story with her permission.

One night a lady in Florida began to pray for her unsaved landlord. God helped her pray into the night. As she interceded, God began to encourage her faith.
