Pray Like George Mueller

George Mueller obtained more than $8,000,000 by prayer so he could care for 10,000 orphans. He prayed for and led tens, if not hundreds, of thousands, to the Lord.

If there was a "secret" to Mueller's prayer life, it was his discovery of the connection between meditation and prayer. He discovered that after meditating on scripture he was more able to experience a meaningful prayer time.
Christian meditation (thinking deeply on scripture) was his "missing link" between Bible intake and prayer.

When he felt it on his heart to pray for a need, he opened his Bible and searched for a promise that fit that need. Sometimes he would search the scriptures for days before he presented his petition to God. And then when he found the promise, with his open Bible, he meditated on that scripture. He would plead that promise before God until his request was answered.

He believed in the power of thinking through scripture as much as he believed in the power of prayer. He always prayed with an open Bible before him.

Often Mueller had no idea where the children's next meal was coming from, he just trusted God's promises. Once when there was no food to give the children and it was almost lunchtime, one of Mueller's assistants came to him, worried. Mueller said, "It's not twelve o'clock yet." Just then, a truck pulled up to the orphanage loaded with food from an unsolicited donor.

Mueller had no "Plan B." If his prayers had failed, his orphanages would have failed. Mueller was totally dependent on God. That was how he wanted it. He once said, "I have joyfully dedicated my whole life to the object of exemplifying how much may be accomplished by prayer and faith."

His life certainly exemplified that.

Thank You, Jesus, for the example of one who taught us by example to pray with an open Bible.
