God Trusts Us!

A theologian once said that the greatest mystery, second only to the mystery of the Trinity, is the mystery of God's Spirit living within us who have invited Jesus into our hearts. The apostle Paul states the possibility again and again: "Christ lives in me" (Galatians 2:20). "We are the temple of the living God" (2 Corinthians 6:16). "Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27).

Although we can never fully comprehend this awesome mystery, we can learn to enjoy Him and gain the benefits of our inner Presence.

One of those benefits is the privilege of lifting our decisions and all our ways to Him throughout the day confident He desires to direct us. "In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths" (Proverbs 3:6 KJV).

In all thy ways! I recall regretting a decision I had made, and the Holy Spirit gently reminded me that I had not acknowledged Him by first bringing the matter to Him. If I had listened to Him, He would have guided me to do what He knew was best. Our God is not silent. He speaks when we take time to listen.

When we attend to Him and say the words He gives, we find that others receive help, blessing, encouragement--just what they need. Jesus spoke of the value of allowing the Spirit to guide our words when He said, "And I know his commands lead to eternal life; so I say whatever the Father tells me to say" (John 12:50 NLT).

God said it this way to Jeremiah, "If you utter worthy, not worthless, words, you will be my spokesman" (Jeremiah 15:19). How amazing that He trusts us to speak for Him!

Dear Lord, help me to see how worthless my words are when I fail to say what You want to say through me.

"Letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace" (Romans 8:6 NLT).
